I am just loving life and doing what we need to do. I am loving my life here but ready to start a new chapter. I am trying to prepare spiritually so that I will be able to take care of everything that I can before I leave. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We have had many miracles to finish my mission. We had another fantastic week with mission highs and records in the area for teaching. We have great investigators that are progressing quickly. We have a baptism date set for them on Sunday. It is going to be a really great week!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"> I gave my farewell talk and I bawled! I am not excited to leave this great place because of the tears that will be spilt by all the people, including me. I talked about the changes that I have seen on my mission. I told the miracle stories that make the whole mission worth it. I have to write a final letter to the mission president that includes a summary of my mission, my favorite things, my best day, the people that I taught and my testimony. It has been awesome to reflect on what I have done. I have been thinking about my successes and the heart breaks. I am still thinking of ways that I can get better. During my talk, I committed to working hard till the last day. The changes that have come into my life because of the gospel are awesome. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We have 5 investigators that are progressing towards baptism. Elder Morris will get to harvest all this great work. I am happy that I could help him and I pray that he will continue to do the work here. The people recognize the change in the area and the branch, which is great! I am not sure why I am so attached to the people here, but I can tell you that the best friendships are made doing spiritual things. Teaching, helping and serving others builds good lasting relationships. One of these relationships is with Elder Morris. He is one of my favorite companions. I love him so much and we have helped each other grow. He has gotten so much better! If you can remember the last time we gave talks in church, he spoke for three minutes and I had to fill the remaining 35 minutes! This time we split the time 50/50. He did so great and he is doing so well with his Spanish. Everyone is so impressed with him...but I knew he could do it! He is going to be the best missionary ever! We are doing our best to pass the baton. There is so much to do this week and all I want to do is work, but no one wants me to. They all just want me to chill and hang out with them. But, I love the work and I will continue. I love my mission. I love it with all my heart! See you all soon!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Peace and blessings and have a magical week!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips</span></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div> </div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-36011427771582655942012-02-22T17:50:00.002-08:002012-02-22T18:11:35.126-08:00February 22, 2012<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Hello! We couldn't email on Monday because of President's Day and because we were so busy it was nuts! We had the opportunity to go to the temple, but we were too busy. We are working to get things done here. We are very lucky. We have 2 baptisms that are serious and that should happen before I go home...so we will see. We had so much success last week. We taught over the amount that the President expects from us. Again, I will say that I will not be coasting to the end of my mission, there is just no way this is going to happen. Elder Morris and I just love the mission more than anything. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We also had a good week at church because we had investigators come to church. It was very fulfilling. Then one of my good buddies that goes out with us almost every day got the priesthood this week! We are so excited for him. He has overcome so much and gives us full credit for helping him. I love him so much. He is changing his life. He is the first in his family to be a priesthood holder. It is so awesome! Everyone is so happy for him. We have a goal that before I leave that the missionaries won't have to help bless the sacrament anymore. We are hoping for enough priesthood holders that they will not need us. We are getting more and more priesthood holders and the branch continues to grow! I just never really imagined how well my mission would end. God really is blessing me with the gift of results and of the spirit. I just feel spoiled for all the things that he has blessed me with. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">This week, I also finished the exchanges with all the missionaries in my district. It is good to have finished that early in the transfer. Because we finished early, we will have more time to work and get down to business. I am also giving my farewell talk here this week which is strange that everything is winding down. There is a scripture in D & C 123:12-14 that describes me. It talks about wasting in the service of the Lord. I love it! It is so cool to thing about all the people that we are teaching and to see the great things that are happening. It is hard to see people go through so many trials in life. I know that I have had such a fantastic life. It has been so nice, and I am not going to lie, mostly just easy and beautiful. I look back on the trials that I have had and they are nothing in compared to what I see daily here. I will give more details another day. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I love my mission and I love you all. Peace and Blessings. Have a Magical Day!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-72559816178416276402012-02-13T15:49:00.000-08:002012-02-13T15:55:40.260-08:00February 13, 2012<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;"><br />

</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;">My week was good and busy with my District Leader responsibilities. I have been doing exchanges since transfer week. I have not been able to do exchanges for a while because I was training a new missionary. Elder Morris' training is officially over and so I am back attending to my responsibilities as the District Leader. I should have them finished up this week. I am doing my best to push the missionaries and help them to get better. Most of us have been together for so long that we are in our comfort zone. A coach once told me that if you are not getting better then you are getting worse, so we are focusing on improving as missionaries. I am focusing on improving all aspects of my life...as a companion, leader and friend.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;">We also had a Zone Conference last week and continue to work with our investigators. Everything is kinda the same with the investigators. I am trying to get them out of their comfort zone and move towards baptism. There are no sure baptisms scheduled right now, but we have some on track. I got some fantastic news that someone that I had been working with in Worcester, that had a baptism date schedule and it didn't work out, is getting baptized this week. That was a little treat that I was so happy to hear about. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;">The highlight of my week was going to dinner at the Coast Guard Academy with one of our investigators. He is awesome. He and his friends that are members invited us to go eat with them on campus and to show us around the campus a little bit. It was really pretty. We had burgers and stuff. It was pretty cool, I am not going to lie! Even though he is Hispanic and speaks Spanish...he goes to the English ward with his friends. I am fine with it and happy that I get a small part of helping him. He seems like a good friend. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;">I am trying to stay focused which is hard because everyone, and I mean everyone from home, friends on the mission and friends in the branch keep asking me how much time I have left on my mission. I think it is the Lord's way of preparing me to return home, otherwise it would be really hard to leave here.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;">Peace and Blessings.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;"><br />
</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;">Love,</span><br />

As you know, last week we set a goal to teach 20 in one week. We knew this might be our last opportunity to reach this goal because of all the activities coming up. We worked very diligently and it was worth it because we reached our goal! The branch said that they have noticed our work. We have been working really closely with the branch teaching them to focus on the things that matter most. We have also been working closely with the kids and teaching them the things in the Strength of Youth pamphlet. Things are really different in Connecticut than Utah and we are really trying to be a positive influence. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We should have a couple of baptisms in a few weeks if all goes according to plan. One is almost for sure. It is awesome. This man has turned into one of my best friends. We had a lesson that was one of the most spiritual experiences ever. We talked about trials and experiences and how we over come them. It was the most spiritual and simple lesson ever. We just talked about how to get over trials with the gospel of Jesus Christ. It was just incredible. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">This week has been really busy. I have been going on a lot of exchanges with my position as the District Leader. What happens in an exchange, is that I have a missionary come and observe what we do in my area and how I run my area. We are trying to get these done before things get too crazy with all the changes that are happening with me! Ha Ha! We had good experiences. One missionary came with me and he loved how we ran around all day long and didn't take breaks. It was a good experience for him. Then we also had an exchange in my area, but the English speaking portion of my area. They don't have too many investigators, so I got to walk around and contact everyone and knock on a good amount of doors. This does not happen too often in my area so it was nice and refreshing to do some good hard missionary work. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We had to sit down and have a good apartment inventory because we had some rough times with missionaries getting upset. This is just part of the mission. We are all great now and working to improve. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">It seems like a lot of my friends are finishing their missions. It seems weird. I am still not "trunky" and don't want to come home, but I think that I will need a break when the 5 weeks are up. I forget sometimes how tired I really am but I will just go until the end and my parents can catch me as I am fall off the plane from being so tired, because that is what I will need. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We did not watch a single second of the super bowl! That is pretty good for me..we all know my weakness is sports. That will be fun to do when I get home I am getting more and more used to the idea of coming home I think the Lord is preparing me to come home because he knows that it will be hard for me. I have been reading the General Conference talks in the Ensign and came across the talk for return missionaries. It started out really slow but ended up being really busy. I am still the District Leader and we had a district meeting with a great speaker who is a recent convert. He said something that really hit me...he said that if you feel you are on a wheel that you should get off because when we are on the wheel, it is means that we are doing the same thing over and over. It is important to change that because if you look at the plan of salvation, that is not how it is supposed to be. You are happier when you are not on the wheel and pushing yourself to get better. It really hit me and made me think. I really enjoyed listening to him. He really impacted the missionaries in the district. It was really good. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">This week we are going to try to go for the all time high for teaching. We are going to try to hit 20. I have been close but have always fallen short. It should be good. None of this coasting till the end of the mission stuff. I have things to do and people to help out! I am excited for this transfer. Wow, Elder Morris is doing well and he taking more responsibility. That is our plan and what I want him to do. We have set goals to help one another achieve it. It has been great to be around him. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We had some extra miles last week and went to Hartford. I like it better than Providence. It was just awesome. There was a great spirit there and I just loved being there. It would have been great to work there on my mission, but that didn't happen. oh, well. I feel like I have something to finish here before I go. We found 2 new investigators and they both should be baptized before I go...which is awesome and I am excited for that. I feel like I experienced a miracle. I went and gave a blessing to someone and then we went back a few days later to do some service. She said, " I know that you have the authority from God because I felt that the blessing was more pure than other that I have gotten from other churches. She was shocked that I can speak Spanish so well, she says I speak better than her kids! Ha Ha! She wants to hear the message of the gospel and come to church but she is quite sick. I hope that she will be able to go someday. The way she described the blessing was that part of my heart went out to her and that I said true words. Wow! That was cool! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We finally finished the 12 week study program of 4 hours of scripture study every day...we are now back to 3 hours per day. Morris is now officially trained and technically not a greenie. My boy is all grown up (now imagine a tear falling down my cheek). Ha Ha! We played ball this week with some less actives and prospective investigators. It was really fun. Elder Morris turned it on and is not awkward anymore. It was just a good time. It was just a good all around week. We are very close to some new investigators. It should be good!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Peace and Blessings!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-56639195449903191542012-01-26T21:00:00.000-08:002012-01-26T21:21:37.633-08:00January 25, 2012<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">This week was transfers and the best thing in the whole world happened....I am staying! Yes! I love the branch and we are just so busy with everything. I am just loving the work here! The next good news is that my companion is staying, too! He is great and I love him so much. He is probably getting sick of me though! He is really doing well. He is learning a lot and I am going to let him take more of the reins here so that he will continue progressing. No one in our apartment was transferred, in fact no one in our district was transferred. We are having fun as a district. I think that it is good sign that no one got transferred. I think it means that the Mission President trusts me as the District Leader and that we are having a lot of success. I am pretty sure that we are all still together for a reason and I hope and pray that I can find it and that I can be a benefit to everyone here.</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">The weather has been unusually warm this year. I think we deserve it after last year! Ha Ha! It snowed close to a foot one day and we went out and pushed cars and then just kept working. Walking in the snow is hard. We were so tired after walking in the snow all day that we took the bus home. Elder Morris just passed out on the bus...it was so funny! The members have been so nice and giving us rides. The snow all melted and it is crazy warm again.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We had an awesome baptism this last week. It was so spiritual. We did it on Friday night which gave us plenty of time to prepare. Her story is so fantastic. It ended up being a lot bigger miracle that we thought. She is so happy and wants to do well in the gospel. She also made so much great food for after the baptism. It was awesome. This was probably the most spiritual baptism that I have experienced on my mission.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We also have a couple of new investigators that will be baptized very soon. I am just loving life here and trying to enjoy it. We have a ton of extra miles for the car this month because we were planning on taking missionaries to the transfer meeting in Boston. Since no one was transferred, we decided to go to Hartford today. We are planning to get haircuts, go to the mall, and say hello to the missionaries here. It should be fun.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I love my mission. It means the world to me. Peace and Blessings. Have a magical week.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-17808526391135071922012-01-18T18:58:00.000-08:002012-01-18T19:20:01.052-08:00January 18, 2012<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">What a fantabulous week that I have had! It has been the best yet! We have a baptism in 2 days and we are so excited, especially Elder Morris. He is doing so well. It has been a great opportunity for him to teach someone all the way through the lessons and do all the preparations for the baptism. We have been visiting our investigator quite often so that she will be ready to go. We also have other people that are getting closer towards baptism as well...so that is good. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We also have an amazing story about a boy that the missionaries met the other day. He will be baptized in his home area with his member girlfriend and his father. He came and played basketball with us. We had a lot of fun and then we taught him afterwards. He is so ready to be baptized. He has been researching the church and learning how to live according to its teachings for quite a while. He already knows so much because of all the study he has done. It has been exciting to teach someone who is so prepared. Even though he is not our investigator, it has been very exciting to teach him and be apart of his conversion. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We are also helping a member by painting her living room and kitchen. It has been really fun to help choose the colors and help by painting. It looks really good. I will send pictures later.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We are having success teaching our investigators. Lots of them are getting close to making the committment to be baptized. They love the gospel that we teach and some have received answers to their prayers that the gospel is true. It has been a cool thing to be apart of. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Next week is transfers. I hope that I will be staying here because I have done so much work here. It would be a real bummer to go somewhere for six weeks . I have made such good friends here and we are making such progress with our investigators. People are changing before our eyes. It is pretty awesome...they are making it easy to be a missionary. The district and my companion are great. This has been a great assignment. I am almost done as a trainer. Next week, my little baby pollito (as the members call him) will be all grown up. He still has a lot to learn, but he has learned very fast. His Spanish is great and his is a good missionary. Everyone is so complimentary towards him. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">It is getting colder now. It is starting to feel like Boston felt last year. We have enjoyed the unusually warm climate, but it looks like it is coming to an end. I hope that I will be staying here to the finish, but what ever happens I will continue to work until the end. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Love you all! Peace and Blessings.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-17131984109040665612012-01-09T16:36:00.001-08:002012-01-09T17:00:31.937-08:00January 9, 2012<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">This week was a good week. We had a few investigators that are coming to church and progressing. We also have a few inactive members that are coming to church and we are trying to help them progress and work towards going to the temple and getting the priesthood. They are just awesome. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I had an interview with the Mission President and that was awesome. I love that man. He guides us, but really lets the missionaries sort things out on their own. He has helped me so much to become more independent. That is a good thing because we all know how dependent I was on my family for support. He is just awesome. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I went on a few exchanges this week. It was cool to see the impact that I have had on some of the elders in my district. Sometimes you think that all your hard work is a waste, but it is not. Many people are so nice and complementary. It was great to see that I am making a difference.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I have had fun starting up a big project at a members home. We helped replace a window and took off this awful looking wallpaper. We are going to start painting this week. We are excited! I love doing stuff like this. It is nice to help a member that has helped us so much. They are so appreciative of the help we give them. She even mentioned in her testimony, how grateful she is for all the things the missionaries have done for her life. It was awesome. I also bore my testimony of fasting and prayer. We had investigators with us that were fasting. In my testimony, I shared an experience I had in the MTC. It was fast Sunday and I didn't know what to fast for. I prayed to know who to fast for and I was impressed to fast for my sister Anya. It seems to me that Anya is a very strong person and never needs anyone to pray for her....but I fasted and prayed for her anyway. Later, I found out that she was having some type of complication with her pregnancy and her diabetes and it was good that I had dedicated my fast to her. It was such a good testimony to me that fasting and prayer works because she was ok. God can tell us what we need to pray for. God is there! He loves me and is aware of me and my family. I almost cried remembering the experience. My investigators were really touched. It was a great day!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I love my mission. I love you all!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Peace and Blessings. Have a magical week!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-74539950006320657502012-01-05T07:48:00.000-08:002012-01-05T08:10:51.542-08:00January 3, 2012<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Well, life is so good. We continue to have so much progress, even though we had a very slow Sunday. We attribute that to everyone staying up really late on New Year's Eve. We continue to pray to expand the attendance at church more and more. We are just plugging along doing the work and continue to not have ENOUGH TIME IN THE DAY! I guess that is what happens when you work really hard...good things happen because God loves you and takes care of you. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Wow! I don't even know where to start. My <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">greenies</span> Spanish is getting so much better. He is changing and maturing right before my eyes! It is awesome. I love him so much and continue to be surprised how much he teaches me! It is just great! We are preparing a few different people to be baptized. We are also getting a lot of people receiving answers that the Book of Mormon is true and another testament of Jesus Christ. We have had so many cool miracles. One of our investigators that we teach, loves the gospel so much. We went over to her house for an appointment and she had company. Usually, when this happens they just tell us to come back later...but this was different. She invited us in and had us teach her guests. Then she testified of her belief in what we were teaching. She showed people her scriptures and everything. Wow! what a cool and amazing experience!!!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I also had the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">privilege</span> of going to Providence on an exchange with the zone leaders. I sure loved it up there. It reminded me of Chelsea. It is just so dense with <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Hispanics</span>, it was just awesome to be apart of it. I got to talk to so many people. The city is jam-packed tight with houses. It was a fun day. Elder Morris took the older zone leader for the day. He did so well. He said he killed the kid walking and the zone leader said how impressed he was because Elder Morris knew where to go and who to visit and what to do He did awesome and even taught a few lessons! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">P-day we got to play basketball with high school kids. One of them is a member and we met at the court to play. They wanted to play the missionaries against the Puerto Ricans. So we played and won! They were decked out in the Jordan basketball shoes and basketball shorts and we had on running shoes! It was a riot! It was a good time and hopefully some of the kids get interested in the church. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">It is getting cold now. Gosh, it is about time! This morning was the first time we had to put on the heater. We woke up freezing! We were so cold and of course our study room is the worst. We took our showers and the steam turned to ice on the windows! It was only 47 degrees in our house! It was our fault, but so funny! I love it too much!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I love you all. Peace and Blessings. Have a magical week!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips </span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-4346198390854759892011-12-28T08:24:00.000-08:002011-12-28T08:30:38.690-08:00December 28, 2011<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">It has been a crazy week even though it has been really slow with the holidays. Our investigators don't want to meet with us during their break. It's ok...we will keep working hard. I still love it! I am just so tired. I am running myself ragged! I love it more than anything. Everyone knows that I love to be busy. Christmas was awesome, although there was like no one at church. It was really strange. I think I would rather work, because I got a little bored just sitting around all day. I have almost no time today. I loved all my presents that everyone sent to me. The one new thing we are doing is playing dodge ball on p-day! So much fun...but my arm is in so much pain! I am going to die...but it was really fun! </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">Got to go. Peace and blessings. I love you so much!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-6566683555636287192011-12-26T07:53:00.000-08:002011-12-26T08:14:10.811-08:00December 19, 2011<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">Wow! What a week I have had. I have loved the mission this week. Everyone knows that we have been working hard and our numbers show it! We have had so much success this week. It is really exciting and fun to know that you are making a large impact in the lives of others. I enjoy my mission and this area so much. The work is hard but it is rewarding. Elder Morris and I are trying to get lots of things going. We are close to having a great explosion. The branch is growing and improving immensely. We are trying to work with the youth and get them going. We would like to get our branch up to 70 people...we are getting close. When I got here, we only had 11 people coming to the branch (and that included the 2 missionaries)! We have been working and praying to get our numbers up. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">We just started our new transfers this week. We got a van to help us with all our meetings. We named our van Hazel...so funny, Elder Morris made it up! It is way better than the Corolla...the chick car! I didn't like it...I'm not gonna lie! We got a new roommate. He is a good guy. I need to try to find a way to communicate to him at his level. I am still the District Leader here for my second to last transfer. It is weird to say that...but I guess this is coming to an end soon, even though I don't want it to. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">This week we had a Branch Christmas party. We were playing musical chairs and Elder Morris ate it so hard! It was so funny. We got teased so bad. White people just can't handle the hispanic parties! I came in second place...I guess that I have been in this culture long enough to play with them! It was fun...we just ate and talked....it sounds like a Phillips reunion! I am not going to lie...the hispanics do it better than us...we have a lot to learn still. I also got volunteered to play Santa. The things we do as missionaries! I tried my best...it was fun.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">On a more serious note, we had some of the best lessons that we have had on my mission this week. Some were new investigators and some were people that we have taught for a while. They were so spiritual and I am sure that they are bringing people closer to baptism. It has been so much fun to bring people to Jesus Christ this week. I have had a few experiences this week that are unforgetable. There is a lot going on in our little part of the Lord's vineyard! We got to go to the temple twice...which is unheard of in our mission. It was so great to go to the temple and have a zone meeting. We got to hang out with people in the zone that we never get to see. I also got to see Elder Dawe for the last time before he goes home. It is really sad to see people that I have been serving with my whole mission go home. This was such a fun day, even though we got stuck in a terrible traffic jam! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">The next trip to the temple was with a member that you see in the picture. It was awesome, this was her first time to the temple and it was quite the adventure. A man escorted us...so that we could keep the mission rules. The two ladies are twins and such good friends! They love the missionaries and always feed us and take care of us. They help us role play with Elder Morris so that he can practice giving the discussions. One of the twins is a little miracle. I had the pleasure of helping her come unto Christ by helping her understand that there is more than baptism. Her sister had recently gone to the temple and she had seen the blessings that her sister had received. We have been teaching her what she needs to do and what she can't do and what blessings she could have if she went to the temple. She took the temple preparation class and we have seen her overcome such struggles. We have seen such a difference in her. She has become such a happy person. What a magical experience to see her face in the temple! After the temple, we realized that she had left her lights on in her car the whole time we were in the temple! Her car wouldn't start! We sat there for a long time. We said a silent prayer and God stepped in! Right after our prayer, someone showed up from the English ward and jumped the car and got us going. They followed us home in case we had more problems. It was so cool to see the love that God has for us. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">Sunday rolled around and we were in charge of Sacrament meeting. I had prepared a talk but didn't have a lot of time to work on it. My companion said that he was going to talk for 7-10 minutes...but ended up talking less than 5 minutes! I guess I am a better bull-crapper in Spanish than in English. I had prepared for 20 minutes and ended up talking for 30 minutes. By the end of my talk, the Branch President was signaling me to wrap it up! I think I have developed to be more like my dad than I thought! There was a really funny thing that Elder Morris said in his talk! I know that I shouldn't tease him about his Spanish...but instead of saying "I miss my family!" he said, "I am weird to my family!" He said it like 4 times during his talk! I don't blame him, because they are similar worlds in Spanish and it was his first talk in Spanish. He did really well and got lots of compliments! After he said it 3 times the Branch President had this funny smirk on his face...it was pretty funny! He is learning so fast. It is awesome. He is teaching more and more. He puts up with me so well and we have so much fun. He helps me relax...which is good! He helps me with the load. I try to tell him nicely what to do, but he gets bothered..just like anyone would. But, we apologize when we get frustrated. I love him so much. He just forgives and we get better. He is an amazing kid! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">What a great week! The area is growing and there are evidences that we are getting more people and more leaders in the area. We have a good amount of investigators and a couple that are getting ready for baptism. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">Anyways...Peace and Blessings!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#333333;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-63071492184750146832011-12-05T16:57:00.000-08:002011-12-05T17:34:22.860-08:00December 5, 2011<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha9d28w0h5KJcB6v6XD_2hwRIbKlguYbC4FdHjtvdPfRuzUv5WsTCP-c0dEmfzv8ZWqI_uYo_Yqqb2zF4sAAEarZu1sEA_hhw6D39jNsUFjH39gPfpSkSOxiT9P0krWdxR5kAPgztsZKxm/s1600/IMG_1398%255B1%255D" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha9d28w0h5KJcB6v6XD_2hwRIbKlguYbC4FdHjtvdPfRuzUv5WsTCP-c0dEmfzv8ZWqI_uYo_Yqqb2zF4sAAEarZu1sEA_hhw6D39jNsUFjH39gPfpSkSOxiT9P0krWdxR5kAPgztsZKxm/s400/IMG_1398%255B1%255D" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682822513888713346" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Goofing off at the Second Hand Store!</span></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2-PyBv_pkJthzuMDLSi0SDWQg6ViZ11x-V-8v8CgywnDb-_nfSvHgzIajWpOSLqTqrQZ4JGtqmO_QJJce6q1FPu2i16RTG5mDpZ1jcYL7YNT251RT1AWauPhOKXvQunZO5C95j_ucKNVF/s1600/IMG_1402%255B1%255D" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2-PyBv_pkJthzuMDLSi0SDWQg6ViZ11x-V-8v8CgywnDb-_nfSvHgzIajWpOSLqTqrQZ4JGtqmO_QJJce6q1FPu2i16RTG5mDpZ1jcYL7YNT251RT1AWauPhOKXvQunZO5C95j_ucKNVF/s400/IMG_1402%255B1%255D" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682820177345201906" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">+</span></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCOvSSWsUaHeOZ_RUz6bZEwMg6YaQd7nsDUwhcvgDec2nAD_sJmZFF0fWEqmmVGVZYyQnZrp8BV6_zTCYkk3nzG4R4hdh7_TN6x5HKcHrGwXeWpWcCOCvo_Rb5eNWYbVBB8nhNa20rxKVZ/s1600/IMG_1404%255B1%255D" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCOvSSWsUaHeOZ_RUz6bZEwMg6YaQd7nsDUwhcvgDec2nAD_sJmZFF0fWEqmmVGVZYyQnZrp8BV6_zTCYkk3nzG4R4hdh7_TN6x5HKcHrGwXeWpWcCOCvo_Rb5eNWYbVBB8nhNa20rxKVZ/s400/IMG_1404%255B1%255D" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682820165603687442" /></span></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Celebrating 99 days left on the mission!</span></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia_ekolXbdewqIrkwD04PGiyYuGToIciWCxQKJoQRzEgftXP4bMVLazIcgmFjT67s8qTSPzRAdG4VPDILIQt60IR-WKvlooshF0L-BLraFnXixYD45L-FDiVIITSp0LucG8HZvO6iJ7oIg/s1600/IMG_1405%255B1%255D" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia_ekolXbdewqIrkwD04PGiyYuGToIciWCxQKJoQRzEgftXP4bMVLazIcgmFjT67s8qTSPzRAdG4VPDILIQt60IR-WKvlooshF0L-BLraFnXixYD45L-FDiVIITSp0LucG8HZvO6iJ7oIg/s400/IMG_1405%255B1%255D" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5682820156634326466" /></span></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">The Ninety-Nine Restaurant tradition!</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Well, what a crazy week! I can not believe that it is December. It is weird over here right now because it is still really warm. I am having such a great time. We are walking more and more of our huge area and have a plan to get bus passes this week, which will be good. I am just loving this area and cannot believe that Christmas is approaching. It is surreal how fast time is going by. Next week is transfers and by the time I write next week, I will only have 2 transfers left. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We are making progress with a few people. We are working hard and I really love the work. Everyone got sick this week. It was awful! Even one of the missionaries in the apartment had to go to the hospital. We had to leave church to give them our car. This weird throat thing is going around. I was only sick for one day and I am almost completely over it now. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I have no idea what will happen during transfers next week, but it is almost a guarantee that Elder Morris and I will stay together to finish his training. He is improving so much and just doing great! He is understanding more and more and getting more involved with the ward and everything. It is weird that Elder Morris' first transfer is ending...it seems like he just got here the other day. We are even closer than ever. We have so much fun walking and talking and testifying and teaching all day long! We are excited for a few of our investigators that are really seeming to get it. They know that the Book of Mormon is true and that the gospel is restored. It is awesome! A few cool things have happened. First, we were told that a less active member that we were visiting is going to go to the temple. We might get to go to the temple with them, which would be really awesome! It is just fantastic to be a missionary! Next, we got to go to Providence for a Zone meeting. During the zone meeting, 5 elders were celebrating their 99 days left on the mission! It is a tradition that at 99 days left we go have lunch at the restaurant called Ninety-nine! Instead of celebrating, we mourned because no one wants to go home yet! It was fun and I was able to take a few pictures. I never thought that I would celebrate going home...it still feels like I am in the middle of my mission! Lastly, we were excited to go to church this week and see how many people would be there. We had quite a few new people tell us that they were coming this week. As the time approached for church to start, there are only 15 people there! We were really sad because we seem to having so much success and feel that people are really progressing. Then slowly by slowly, the church just filled up! We had a few investigators and a few less active members come! We are working so hard and it is fun to see results! To see the branch grow is such a good thing! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I love you all so much! What a week! Let's just say that this Thanksgiving was something that I will never forget! We had like 3 different Thanksgiving dinners. I thought that I was going to escape that this year, but I didn't...we just had the dinners on different days. Here is the rundown: </span><div><ul><li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">The first one was a party with ESL class we help with. We have also taught a couple of them the gospel. It was mostly Dominican and Puerto Rican food. It was really good. They are so surprised that we like their food and stuff. It was fun to talk and eat!</span></li><li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">The second one was a big party at a friends house with all the Puerto Ricans in town! There was turkey, but no one likes turkey in the Spanish culture. It is too dry and I agree! Ha Ha! So we also had a big pork leg and it was sooo good! It was really fun! There was music and we played dominos. It was pretty much like everything else in the hispanic culture...another reason to party! Ha Ha!</span></li><li><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">The third one was yesterday. We got invited by a nice family, that we love, to go and have Thanksgiving dinner. It was a typical Thanksgiving dinner...which was really nice. We also went to a birthday party of a little girl. We are teaching her family. Luckily, we didn't have to eat at the party! </span></li></ul><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I love the Spanish culture so much. There is always lots of food! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We are working very closely with a couple of investigators. There are two that are getting closer to baptism. We will have 2 more months of good hard work to get them prepared. The recent converts that I have and that I thought would strengthen the branch could be moving to New York. He is such a stud. I am super jealous. We will do one soon before you get too old and decrepit to do another one! Ha Ha! I am very happy for you and have been bragging about you all week!</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">This week was fantastic, filled with all sots of ups and downs and hills and valleys. I just love the mission. It is just the best thing I have ever done. My position as district Leader continues to be rewarding and keeps me very focused on all things that we should do toward our main goal which is to help people come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel. A little family said to us, "I took it as a sign from God that you have an important message because you have come back and tried so many times." It is great and really inspirational to be a part of it. We are teaching lessons to new investigators and they are coming to church. God is really spoiling us here. There was about 40 people in our branch this week and probable 15 of those people we are bringing with us. It is really awesome. The branch is taking us seriously because we are working hard and trying to build up the branch. I know that I am sounding "cheesy" but the mission is just great and Elder Morris is like one of my best friends. He is very coachable and we just get along perfectly. We are into the same kind of things and we have fun talking to each other. I love teaching him because he makes it easy. He is a great great kid. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">It kinda hit me how soon I go home...it is weird. Everyone is starting to do the math and tell me how much time I have left. I don't like it. I feel like I am just getting used to the mission and feeling comfortable with what I am doing. It is becoming part of my life. It seems normal to work from 8 am to 9 pm, 6.5 days a week...I will probably never work that hard again...but it seems normal now.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">This week, we found some new investigators that are serious about baptism. We don't know when it is going to happen but they seem like they are serious and that they could be baptized before I go. We are just having great success and God is blessing us in the so called worst area for Spanish in the mission. That is just how it goes. Sometimes people need a certain type of missionary.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We have been invited to four different Thanksgiving dinners! I did that last year and I don't want to do that again! It was aweful...I felt so sick! We will chill with a great family!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Peace and Blessings!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-82279351368773267822011-11-14T18:04:00.000-08:002011-11-14T18:34:48.675-08:00November 14, 2011<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgedr_AHXq7TqYtwsM3Pv8x8sPDAv-3jpawurehfXg-9pzmls8J52LResJB8dPU12vq51gytQBPEIauZq6HDy_ypu05rKL0hF0qjn-rAa31h3YGbwhcInBn4HAyPQ4o7pzT1kaeWOWT0uwM/s1600/IMG_1312%255B1%255D" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgedr_AHXq7TqYtwsM3Pv8x8sPDAv-3jpawurehfXg-9pzmls8J52LResJB8dPU12vq51gytQBPEIauZq6HDy_ypu05rKL0hF0qjn-rAa31h3YGbwhcInBn4HAyPQ4o7pzT1kaeWOWT0uwM/s400/IMG_1312%255B1%255D" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675044827931918962" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">In front of the Chihuly sculpture at a local restaurant. </span></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfZGqj7Y_5Mwd7VCLxIH7rzaiYY-69VkbQnDsS71VSVsZhzA2FOaLzGHSyBdeNRj8V6czGrzs7IdoiKDeGDlV4NG-UFDLx2rZySPDyD4w12priW64Ysjeufqwhd8FbK_JmFYYJpNqN4hj2/s1600/IMG_1337%255B1%255D" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfZGqj7Y_5Mwd7VCLxIH7rzaiYY-69VkbQnDsS71VSVsZhzA2FOaLzGHSyBdeNRj8V6czGrzs7IdoiKDeGDlV4NG-UFDLx2rZySPDyD4w12priW64Ysjeufqwhd8FbK_JmFYYJpNqN4hj2/s400/IMG_1337%255B1%255D" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5675044827520275394" /></span></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Thanks for the Thanksgiving package!</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">WOW! I feel like there is not enough time to breathe anymore. It is just crazy how busy we are. My companion is awesome and he says, "I feel like you are dragging me along all day long!" I love it so much! It is great to work with someone who likes to work hard, too. He is always tired and stuff! Ha Ha! I am trying to do my best to inspire the other people around me to work hard too. It is pretty awesome. I just love my position as a District Leader and Trainer. I feel like I can help so many people...it is really really fun! </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">The branch that we are in is giving me more and more responsibility and the people are trusting me more. It is great! The Stake President came to our branch yesterday. We had a quite a few people at church. We had guest speakers and musical numbers. It was great! We get used to things like that in Utah, but not here. It was nice to have the Stake President speak Spanish. He is a great man with 10 kids. He is someone I aspire to be like some day. He is a great example and still has time for individuals. It is so cool. He goes out with the missionaries and is friends with the missionaries. I respect him and love him. He is working hard for the stake and guiding our little branch. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Recently, people have been talking to me about going home...I hate talking about it because I love this so much and don't want it to end at all. It will be terrible. I feel like I am just getting started and I feel like I want to keep going and do it forever. Maybe go home for a while and then come back. It is the best thing I have ever done in my life and the most fun too! I am with the best people that make me happy. I used to make fun of cheesy missionaries and now I am actually one of them!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">This week we had a zone meeting in Worcester. All the missionaries kept asking me, "What did you do to make these people love you so much?" The people in Worcester gave me so much special treatment. It made me feel so good! It was fantastic! It makes me not want to come home even more! Ha Ha!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">My new companion is just fantastic! He is like a sponge and we tease and have fun together. He has such a love for the gospel and for the people already. He was just so surprised about how much members and investigators trust us and love us. Anyway...I am fine and happy and having success. We are just doing what the Lord wants us to do and doing it how he wants. We are making good relationships with people. I know Elder Morris will be a good missionary. I see his desires and how he wants to help people. We have a couple of new investigators and we had 5 or 6 less actives come to church last week. That doesn't seem like a lot in a crowd of 500, but in a crowd of 50 it makes a real difference! It is fun to see results!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Peace and Blessings! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-34631153888665279512011-11-07T17:16:00.000-08:002011-11-07T17:36:42.738-08:00November 7, 2011<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEion-4YC2bZ8-b85l2N6y_C0mVSue4jGEnJ1NjJDe4HG53lxW6-53CWHRbwSsbp_4Lb3bxsGcFmtsdabfVWcwtiqL2qOfLAGnQnNvGvXIUYT4DCZR3ruZhyphenhyphenfuyggBMt0nlb2-Ki4I4LC2gI/s1600/IMG_1335%255B1%255D" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEion-4YC2bZ8-b85l2N6y_C0mVSue4jGEnJ1NjJDe4HG53lxW6-53CWHRbwSsbp_4Lb3bxsGcFmtsdabfVWcwtiqL2qOfLAGnQnNvGvXIUYT4DCZR3ruZhyphenhyphenfuyggBMt0nlb2-Ki4I4LC2gI/s400/IMG_1335%255B1%255D" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5672432595638068882" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">My new companion, Elder Morris and me.</span></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUsYz6UHL8GSQrWasR4VA_ZdBeU3wbz-CCKeoka4gfKQ9sGdLhXkR1Tg-6U7Wd3HoUGEvrSn-VTNwJ_LBzZZCIK46FELFq0TMbsi0_PlEEzD5KyRARI5rKzlnBwsiv2IvaE2tFNIsiapFr/s1600/IMG_1323%255B1%255D" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUsYz6UHL8GSQrWasR4VA_ZdBeU3wbz-CCKeoka4gfKQ9sGdLhXkR1Tg-6U7Wd3HoUGEvrSn-VTNwJ_LBzZZCIK46FELFq0TMbsi0_PlEEzD5KyRARI5rKzlnBwsiv2IvaE2tFNIsiapFr/s400/IMG_1323%255B1%255D" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5672432589178766658" /></span></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Barnhurst and I saying goodbye to his friends.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">My week has been awesome and pretty crazy at the same time with so many changes. I got my new companion, Elder Morris from Park City, Utah. He knows Spanish pretty well because his dad is the Bishop in a Spanish ward in Park City. He is really cool and takes correction really really well and is doing great. This week was nuts for him. I forgot about all the changes that one must go through when you first get out on the mission, but he has a really good attitude about it. It is awesome just to be part of his learning. I am so impressed with the new Spanish program for missionaries in the MTC. He is an awesome kid and reminds me so much of Greg Mangum. I just love him. He asks me questions and reminds me of why I love my mission so much and why it means so much to me. I am just loving my mission! </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We are getting more investigators and we have had great lessons this week, but I am not sure how close they are to baptism. We will see how that goes, but I sure love it and what I have to do as a missionary. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We had Stake Conference this weekend. It was awesome. The Stake Presidency here in the Providence Stake are studs! They are just tearing it up in this part of the world. I also got to get to know the ward in Providence. It is huge with so many kids! I think the Spanish ward here is bigger than in Chelsea! It is awesome. The church is growing so fast and I have a larger role in this branch. It is fun to be apart of it! We even had snow which is not very common here this time of year. It has been good and hard, but worth it. First, I will give the news about transfers. The only change is with my companion, Elder Barnhurst. Elder Barnhurst is going home and the trunky bugger has been counting down forever! Ha Ha! I will be getting a "greenie" in his place from Park City, Utah. The changes will be good because I was feeling like I was just on a plateau for a while. I will continue to be diligent and help others follow the mission plan. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Next, I will talk about the snow storm that hit us and shut down the mission, except for me. I think my companion was going to kill me when the mission told us we couldn't drive but we went out anyway (walking) in the cool freezing rain! It was good fun, anyway I have been out in worse weather. The mission got shut down because Boston and any where close by didn't have any power. In New London, we only got rain and a couple of inches of snow, but 30 minutes north got 1 1/2 feet of snow! It didn't really stop us or put a damper on things...we just continued.<br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We had a Halloween party at the church and had some investigators come, which was really good. Elder Barnhurst and I switched name tags ...we came dressed as one another! Ha Ha! A couple of members gave us a ton of candy...so we gave it out to all the kids. They loved us! We hung out and socialized with the members. It was really fun!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">The last story is about our baptism this week. We had these golden investigators that were scheduled for baptism. Well, we all know that Satan is really good at what he does, so he put a few roadblocks in the way. After their baptismal interviews, the decision was made that a couple of the family members were not quite ready for baptism because they still had a few issues that needed to be resolved. The family was very upset about this. In fact, they called me and yelled at me and said that we are just men and can't tell them when someone can and can't get baptized. I mean they were really upset! Oh my gosh! This happened Wednesday and the baptisms were scheduled for Saturday. A baptism requires a lot of preparation. We have to plan the program which includes music and talks. Anyway, we just continued to prepare for the baptism and had the district fast and pray for them. We had an appointment scheduled with the family on Friday to try to explain the doctrine to them. We were prepared to get yelled at again, but guess what? We started out with a prayer and they understood and accepted that some family members needed more time. The family members that were ready for baptism went a head and got baptized! It turned out wonderful and they were so happy! I have such a testimony of fasting and praying! I was so content and no one could ruin my week after that! After the baptism, my companion was just done. He turned the switch and he was done with his mission! I have just tried to keep plugging along. I love him so much and he is one of my best friends! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Peace and Blessings! Have a magical day!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Phillips</span></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-60344500142266703272011-10-24T18:28:00.000-07:002011-10-24T18:50:20.960-07:00October 24, 2011<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiBw40q7j_mJ_z3LZFoCANc0YhyegXNlbcSza6ce97D8I-1XiAT2X5tdC_nbzXuqFRDwALmvX7rb85sF1QDwpKS6zi8v44ANpT1rJ2mBLTVGfd26xLj0leu8XW4A0QCqr5IeKdkdQCN7Ur/s1600/IMG_1264%255B1%255D" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiBw40q7j_mJ_z3LZFoCANc0YhyegXNlbcSza6ce97D8I-1XiAT2X5tdC_nbzXuqFRDwALmvX7rb85sF1QDwpKS6zi8v44ANpT1rJ2mBLTVGfd26xLj0leu8XW4A0QCqr5IeKdkdQCN7Ur/s400/IMG_1264%255B1%255D" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5667240775370293954" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Helping the Phillips' family move! For real!!</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Oh my gosh it was such a great week! We got to do a couple of exchanges with other missionaries which was really fun. As a District Leader, when I go with other elders, I really try to see problems that I can do my best to help them with. I love being a District Leader...it is a lot more work but the things that come with it is a whole lot better. I feel like I am making a difference. Our District is so tight. We just love each other and want to help one another. We have a lot of fun and try to have spiritual experiences as well. </span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">The leaves are changing here and it is just breathtaking! Last year, I didn't get to really experience it because I was in the city of Boston. It is totally different in New London and it is just fantastic. I just love the work and have come to really love my companion. He is getting way "trunky" because he goes home in next week! He is really nice and gives me many public compliments. He is great! </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"> I have such a strong testimony that I should be here and that there are people that I can touch and help here that were prepared for me. One such family has been receiving the lessons for years and has finally set a date for baptism. I am really excited! He is an amazing guy but he needs to make a few changes, so we will see what happens. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">On one of our exchanges, we went and had a typical dish from the Dominican Republic. It was a good sea food dish that is fantastic with all the seafood you can imagine. It is a delicacy and it was so good...but the English speaking missionary I was with ...well lets just say it didn't sit too well with him! Ha Ha! It reminded me of when I first got here and I was trying to get used to all the different food! It was really hard on my body! It brought back some good memories!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">We are preparing for the baptism of 2 people this week and we will also be having some parties to say goodbye to Elder Barnhurst. Next week is transfers again so we will see what happens. I don't think I will move because there is so many things going on around here. </span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I hope you have a great week. I love you all!</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">Elder Aaron James Phillips</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;"><br /></span></div><div><br /></div>Tammy Phillipshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16060805988439145701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2314010577028499057.post-46919899819562288482011-10-22T20:52:00.000-07:002011-10-22T20:57:09.720-07:00Thank You Letter<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#666666;">I received a the nicest letter from a family in Worchester, MA last week.
